Elon Musk will give Wikipedia $1 billion if website agrees to childish name change
Elon Musk will give Wikipedia $1 billion if website agrees to childish name change
You know how anytime you go onto Wikipedia you're asked to donate? Elon Musk could get rid of that once and for all, on one condition. Wikipedia is run by a team of volunteers and is free to access. Volunteers help keep the site up to date as well as write numerous translations for various articles to increase the accessibility. Now, Elon Musk is offering the site $1 billion dollars, but only if they change their name. Musk, who clearly has the same humour as a 12-year-old, is prepared to give out a large cheque if Wikipedia becomes... 'D**kipedia'. Musk was seemingly inspired after seeing the standard appeal for donation on the site, although was unsure why the site was asking for money. "Have you ever wondered why the Wikimedia Foundation ants so much money?" The Twitter/X CEO asked. "It certainly isn't needed to operate Wikipedia. You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone! "So, what's the money for? Inquiring minds want to know..." But a quick Google and Musk could have found the answer himself. Samantha Lien, a spokeswoman for the Wikimedia Foundation, told The Washington Post: "Based on guidance from the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees, our reserve amounts to one year of operating budget. "If there were circumstances that affected our ability to raise those funds during that period, we could end up in an urgent situation - the reserve is a safety net to protect Wikipedia against such as possibility." Although, the large donation perhaps isn't the best use of Musk's money after his wealth dropped by $16 billion after shares in Tesla dropped by 9.3 percent since the company released its 2023 third-quarter earnings report. Elon Musk gives his verdict on the existence of aliens
Elon Musk gives his verdict on the existence of aliens
Elon Musk has shared his thoughts on whether aliens really exist out there in the universe. The 52-year-old billionaire is CEO of SpaceX, which manufactures and launches rockets into space with the "goal of enabling people to live on other planets," and now he's given his take on whether there is life beyond Earth. Musk appeared via video link at the International Astronautical Congress in Baku, Azerbaijan on Thursday (October 5) where his ambition to launch his Starship spacecraft to Mars was discussed, along with what future endeavours into space will look like. While aliens were also mentioned, Musk said he has seen "no evidence" they exist. "People often ask me if I’ve seen any evidence of aliens and I unfortunately have seen no evidence of aliens yet," Musk said. "We are the aliens, as far as I can tell." He added: "And I think if anyone would know, it would probably be me, and I’ve not seen any evidence of aliens. "So, what that perhaps suggests is that this tiny candle of consciousness that is humanity is all that exists in a vast darkness, and we should do everything we can to ensure that the candle does not go out." It's not the first time Musk has discussed this topic as he shared a similar opinion during an interview in April with with then-Fox News host Tucker Carlson. However, he added that if knew aliens were real he would tweet this information out to the world. "I'm, you know, very familiar with space stuff," he said. "I’ve seen no evidence of aliens. I would immediately tweet it out. "That’d be probably the top tweet of all time. 'We found one, guys!' It's the jackpot with some 8billion likes." Definitely worth keeping an eye on Musk's tweets then, you know, just in case... Meanwhile, the business magnate has claimed he is in fact an alien himself. "I keep telling people I’m an alien, but no one believes me," Musk recently tweeted. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Did Elon Musk make a cameo in Cyberpunk 2077?
Did Elon Musk make a cameo in Cyberpunk 2077?
The new biography on Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson has claimed that the Tesla, Space X and X/Twitter owner once brought a gun to a recording session of the game Cyberpunk 2077 and asked to be included in a cameo. The game, which was released in 2020 was infamously hit with a number of technical issues but was still one of the most hyped releases of that particular year and even featured a cameo from Keanu Reeves. Now it appears that Musk also has an albeit brief cameo in the game, which he was reportedly "obsessed" with. According to Isaacson, Musk turned up at a studio where his then-partner Grimes was recording the voice for the game's popstar character Lizzy Wizzy. Grimes told Isaacson that Musk appeared at the studio touting a 200-year-old replica flintlock pistol that Musk sleeps with beside his bed. Musk shared a photo of the pistol next to his bed in 2022. Grimes recounts that "the studio guys were like sweating" but Musk calmed them down by saying he was "was armed but not dangerous." You would think that this type of intervention might not convince anyone to put Musk in a video game but then again he is one of the richest men in the world and sure enough he did make a small appearance in Cyberpunk. Or that's at least what gamers think. In December 2020 CNET reported that an NPC-character that looks very similar to Musk does make an appearance during the game's Corpo intro. Musk also interacted with the game's official X/Twitter account after it posted that they "had a deal" with him. This is hardly the first time that Musk has made a cameo in a piece of pop culture having also appeared in the likes of The Simpsons, South Park, Rick and Morty, The Big Bang Theory and even Iron Man 2. How to play Taylor Swift's 1989 Vault game on Google
How to play Taylor Swift's 1989 Vault game on Google
Taylor Swift is known for dropping musical Easter eggs, and with the release of 1989 (Taylor's Version) on the horizon, a new Google game has appeared where fans can unlock the album vault track titles and features. In a post to Instagram, the pop star shared a clip of the 1989 blue and seagull-themed vault, where the vault opened to reveal different letter flying letters - a similar rollout to her previous re-recordings Fearless (Taylor's Version) and Red (Taylor's Version) back in 2021. "You can tell me when the *search* is over… if the high was worth the pain," the caption read, referring to the commencement of "the search," as well as lyrically referencing the 1989 hit song Blank Space. If you Google 'Taylor Swift' now, a graphic of a blue vault sitting in the sand will appear in the bottom right-hand corner of the search results. Once clicked on, a series of jumbled letters appear on the screen in different colours along with a hint at the bottom to help fans figure out the word. Altogether there are 89 puzzles to solve in total but Swifties need to collectively solve a whopping 33m (Swift is 33 years old) puzzles globally to unlock the vault, and the fandom has made it their mission to complete the challenge. At the time of writing, over 27.2m puzzles have been solved. After quickly realising the mission, the Google page was inundated with Swifties desperately to join in - so much so that they "jammed" the vault due to demand with the search engine providing an update. (With some Swift-based lyrical puns, of course). Since then it looks like the vault is working as fans get closer to cracking it open... Swift's fourth re-recording of 1989 (Taylor's Version) is set to be released next month on October 27. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Olivia Rodrigo sends stranger voicemail thinking it's her doctor
The internet is losing it after a TikToker shared a voicemail from 2019, in which Olivia Rodrigo seemingly mistakes the total stranger for her doctor. In the clip, the singer's distinct voice can be heard, and she even introduces herself, as she goes on to explain how she 'tried to schedule an appointment' and asking them to 'call back'. "I would've called back and told her I loved her", one user joked in the comments. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter

It’s been 11 years since Danny Dyer called the 9/11 attackers ‘slags’ on Twitter
It’s been 11 years since Danny Dyer called the 9/11 attackers ‘slags’ on Twitter
Over its history, social media has provided us with some truly legendary content that will live long in the memory. Today is the 11 year anniversary of one such tweet, in which British actor Danny Dyer called the 9/11 attackers “slags”. The horrifying attacks on 11 Septemer 2001 claimed the lives of 2,977 victims when 19 terrorists hijacked and crashed four planes in a co-ordinated attack on the United States. The events shocked the world and the disbelief at what actually occurred has continued for years following. 11 years after the attacks in 2012, Dyer took to Twitter to express just that, writing in typical Cockney fashion: “Can’t believe it’s been nearly 11 years since them slags smashed into the twin towers it still freaks my nut out to this day.” At the time, Dyer deleted the tweet shortly after posting it, but not before several screenshots saw it go down in internet history. “Can’t believe it’s been 11 years since Danny Dyer’s brilliant 9/11 tweet,” one person wrote. Some pointed out that we have reached the point where the tweet sent by Danny Dyer is as far away from us as it was after the events of 9/11. One X/Twitter user explained: “Realising it’s now as many years since Danny Dyer’s tweet as it was between 9/11 and him writing it.” Another said: “We are now as far away from Danny Dyer's 9/11 tweet as Danny Dyer's 9/11 tweet was from 9/11.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. MrBeast reveals tiny detail that gets even more views on YouTube
MrBeast reveals tiny detail that gets even more views on YouTube
As the biggest YouTuber out there, MrBeast is known for his eye-catching thumbnails. However, he recently noted one change that is causing even more people to view his videos. The 25-year-old - whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson - has over 181m subscribers and so knows what causes viewers to click on his latest piece of elaborate content. Often, MrBeast - like many other YouTubers - can be seen pulling a shocked face to attract and intrigue viewers to watch in his thumbnail images. But after testing out different versions for his videos, he shared how the classic pose isn't as effective as he thought, explaining that thumbnails with his mouth shut do better. “I closed my mouth on all my thumbnails and the watch time went up on every video lol,” MrBeast said on Twitter/X. “My mouth is now closed in all my thumbnails but the war has just begun. We must not rest until mouths are closed in everyone’s thumbnails." In the tweet, he shared a screenshot of the different combinations where YouTube declared the thumbnails of him flashing a smile were a "winner," compared to the traditional shocked face. "Now all YouTubers will shut their mouths," one user jokingly tweeted, to which the MrBeast replied: "Thank god." When someone asked the YouTuber if the shocked face thumbnail era was over, he answered: "Seems like it, here’s more results. Now that I can actually A/B test thumbnails I don’t have to guess and I just test and see what people want." The YouTuber admitted: "My mouth would have closed years ago if I had this tool." Kris Jenner branded ‘ridiculous’ over new filtered snaps
Kris Jenner branded ‘ridiculous’ over new filtered snaps
Kris Jenner's latest Instagram post has posed a few questions about her flawless appearance. The reality star and famed momager of the Kardashian-Jenner clan took to the app on Monday (28 August) to showcase a glam look by make-up artist Samer Khouzami. The clip shows the 67-year-old innocently smiling for the camera – but many have gone as far as to accuse her porcelain skin as being "AI". One person hit back at MUA Khouzami: "Please post an unfiltered photo so we can see her true beauty. Being a master makeup artist this just gives clients the wrong illusion and this is things they expect instead of seeing pours which is totally normal." Another added: "She is f***ing stunning - but please show us this look without the ridiculous filter though? She doesn’t need it." "What the hell is happening that’s not her face," one fan quipped. Meanwhile, the editing app Facetune, which has become a popular hit among influencers and celebrities, snubbed: "This is a great time to tell everyone we have Facetune for videos." This isn't the first time eagle-eyed fans have accused the family of editing their photos online. Kim Kardashian even admitted to one hilarious mishap that got the internet talking. In a post last year, the SKIMS founder confessed to replacing Kylie Jenner's daughter, Stormi, with Khloe Kardashian's daughter, True. At the time, Kim shared the original image at Disneyland to her Instagram story, writing: "The original pics were Stormi! However, I asked @kyliejenner if I could post them and she said [insert crying face] she wasn't really feeling posting at the moment and so I respect that! But it wasn't going to mess up my IG feed. Chi was wearing pink and it matched perfectly." She continued: "It wasn't the aesthetic I was going for and I can own up to that! You know how much a good aesthetic means to my soul and I will be dammed if Kylie will ruin that for me and mess up my IG grid. So thank you True for taking one for the team!" KSI slammed for ’disgusting’ post mocking Tommy Fury featuring disabled TikTok model
KSI slammed for ’disgusting’ post mocking Tommy Fury featuring disabled TikTok model
As YouTuber, musician and boxer KSI gears up for his next fight against ex-Love Island contestant Tommy Fury in October, the content creator has been taking aim at his opponent in a series of posts on X/Twitter – but one tweet mocking Fury has seen the Sidemen member branded “ableist” by social media users. KSI, real name Olajide “JJ” Olatunji, took to X on Thursday evening to share a series of posts mocking Fury, one of which featured a video of a disabled model flexing his muscles. In a caption accompanying the TikTok video from user @the_honest_1, JJ wrote: “Can’t lie, Tommy Fury has never looked better.” The clip was taken from the account of 20-year-old Amine Sheik, a person with a shorter upper body who has more than 193,000 followers on the social media platform. However, Olatunji has since been criticised for his use of the video, with X users labelling the “Holiday” singer “ableist” and “pathetic” for using a disabled person to belittle his rival: Neither KSI or Sheik have responded to the tweet and the backlash since it was posted. It is not the first time KSI has come under fire for comments and actions around disability, with the social media influencer previously being filmed giving a video message to an autistic fan telling them to “get well soon” before asking his friends “am I being r****ded” when he was met with shocked reactions. He also forced his editor to subtitle gibberish in a video from 2020 after his YouTube content started coming with closed captions – a feature which makes videos accessible for deaf viewers. In April, the YouTube star took a break from social media and apologised after he was filmed saying a racial slur during a ‘Sidemen Sunday’ parodying popular daytime game show Countdown. KSI fights Tommy Fury on 14 October in Manchester, with Prime co-founder Logan Paul also on the card against mixed martial artist Dillon Danis. Is Andrew Tate's interview with Tucker Carlson the most watched interview ever?
Is Andrew Tate's interview with Tucker Carlson the most watched interview ever?
Controversial influencer Andrew Tate has put himself in the spotlight again after sitting down for an interview with right-wing media personality Tucker Carlson. Carlson shared the two-and-a-half-hour-long conversation between the pair on Twitter as part of his new independent talk show named “Tucker on Twitter”, following his sacking from FOX News in April. Tate, along with his brother Tristan and two other associates, has been charged in Romania with rape, human trafficking and forming an organised crime group. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter During his interview with Carlson, he discussed his opinions “masculinity” and other aspects of his life and personal experiences. The tweet containing the interview has been viewed more 107 million times, according to Twitter statistics. Is it the most-watched television interview ever? Some of Tate’s fans have made the claim that the interview is the most-watched TV interview of all time, with one “fan” Twitter account, writing: “Andrew Tate's interview with Tucker Carlson is the most watched interview of all time. With the tweet, they shared a screenshot of a Wikipedia page with the title “List of most watched television interviews”. An arrow pointing to the top of the table listed the Tate and Carlson interview in the number one spot, however, the interview was never aired on television and instead was posted on Twitter. Sportskeeda revealed the Wikipedia screenshot with either edited or photoshopped because the current page lists a 1993 Oprah Winfrey interview with Michael Jackson as the most-watched television interview with an average viewership of 62.3 million. The false claim by Tate’s fans was made despite the Wikipedia page stating: “This is specifically on broadcast television and not on other television sources such as YouTube, Twitter or other online source.” However, the interview might be able to claim the title of 'most watched ever' if the television side of the discussion is ignored. The interview has outperformed the widely reported most viewed video on Twitter, which was a piece of skill by Lionel Messi that had more than 19 million views. However, its got a long way to go before it can outperform the biggest video on YouTube; 'Babyshark' which has been viewed an astonishing 13 billion times. Have your say in our news democracy.
