Ubisoft Says a 'Technical Error' Is To Blame For Assassin's Creed Pop-Up Ads

Some Assassin’s Creed players got an unwanted surprise this week when a fullscreen pop-up ad appeared in the middle of the game.

The ad was reported by players of both the Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game and appeared when players navigated to the map screen within the game.

In a post on Twitter Ubisoft acknowledged the issue and attributed it to a technical error which has now been fixed. According to the company it intended to display a promotion for Assassin’s Creed Mirage in the franchise news in the main menu of other Assassin’s Creed games; however, a bug caused the promotion to appear in in-game menus as well.

Players on both X and Reddit were skeptical of the excuse, and have suggested that the company intentionally included the ad, and only claimed it was a bug when it was met with backlash.

Regardless of how or why the ads made their way into the game, the ads are now no longer being displayed.
