The iPhone 15 Battery Isn't a Huge Improvement Over Its Predecessor

The iPhone 15 officially made its debut last week and now we know more about the battery that’s inside it.

Traditionally, Apple doesn’t share information about the batteries in its phones; however, MySmartPrice found the info for the new phone through a Chinese database, MacRumors reports.

The battery capacities for the entire iPhone lineup saw a boost with the iPhone 15; however, the boost is more modest on some models than with others.

Here are the current capacities for the iPhone 15 versus the capacities for the iPhone 14.

  • iPhone 15: 3,349mAh // iPhone 14: 3,279 mAh

  • iPhone 15 Plus: 4,383mAh // iPhone 14 Plus: 4,325 mAh

  • iPhone 15 Pro: 3,274mAh // iPhone 14 Pro: 3,200 mAh

  • iPhone 15 Pro Max: 4,422mAh // iPhone 14 Pro Max: 4,323 mAh

Worth noting, Apple didn’t highlight any specific battery improvements in its presentation this week, perhaps because any battery increases are negligible when it comes to actual battery performance on the device.

The company provided the same estimated battery life for the iPhone 15 as it did for the iPhone 14.

To put that into usage terms, Apple says that the iPhone 15 Pro Max is capable of 29 hours of video playback and up to 95 hours of audio playback on a single charge, while the iPhone 15 is only able to handle 20 hours of video playback and 80 hours of audio.

Last month, many iPhone 14 users started complaining that their phones no longer held as much of a charge as they did initially.

Apple has previously said that the iPhone battery is designed to retain 80% of its original capacity “at 500 complete charge cycles."
