2023 is a busy year for Magic: The Gathering, with a whirlwind of sets releasing in the first half of the year, including multiple sets involving New Phyrexia: All Will Be One and March of the Machine. Magic is taking a short break for the Summer and returning in the Fall with the next Standard set: Wilds of Eldraine. Here's when it comes out.
Wilds of Eldraine will be the first premier Magic set released after the failed Phyrexian invasion of the Multiverse. It takes place on the fairy-tale realm of Eldraine, which takes inspiration from classic stories like those of Camelot. The plane was introduced in 2019's Throne of Eldraine.
MTG Wilds of Eldraine Release Date
According to an article on the official MTG website, Wilds of Eldraine releases in stores on September 8, though it releases a few days earlier on MTG Arena. Furthermore, some players were expecting the release to coincide with Standard rotation - this has changed.
Throne of Eldraine was notable due to the many powerful cards included in the set, such as the near-universally banned Oko, Thief of Crowns and the reviled Questing Beast.
WOTC has already revealed several of the characters who will be main players in the set, including some new and returning faces undoubtedly changed by the invasion of their home.
It's unclear if Wilds of Eldraine will be as powerful of a set as Throne of Eldraine was, but with the power level of Standard as it is right now, such a set might provide the shakeup the Standard meta needs right now.
