Elon Musk has admitted that his endorsement of an antisemitic conspiracy theory on his social media site X, previously known as Twitter, was a “mistake” and “one of the most foolish” things he had done on the platform. The world’s richest man said he had “no problem being hated” but also blamed members of the media for much of the outrage surrounding the post, which is thought to have contributed to major investors in the platform pulling funding. Earlier this month, Mr Musk responded to a Twitter/X user who accused Jewish people of hating white people by saying it was “the actual truth.” His actions sparked global outrage, with several world leaders condemning his endorsement of the conspiracy theory. Speaking at the New York Times’ Dealbook Summit this week, Mr Musk discussed the post and said that the outrage caused was “not my intention”. “[It was] one of the most foolish — if not the most foolish — thing I’ve done on the platform,” he said. “I should in retrospect not have replied to that one person and should have written in greater length what I meant,” he said. “But those clarifications were ignored by the media and essentially I handed a loaded gun to those who hate me and arguably to those who are antisemitic. And for that I’m quite sorry, that was not my intention.” Earlier this week, Mr Musk visited Israel and toured a kibbutz attacked by Hamas, meeting with Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The pair visited the Kfar Aza kibbutz, which Hamas attacked on 7 October, killing an estimated 52 residents. Another 20 people are reported as missing. Mr Musk said witnessing the scenes of the massacre was “jarring”, during a live event on Twitter/X with Mr Netanyahu after the tour. Speaking at the Dealbook Summit, he denied that the visit had been – as some had described it – an “apology tour”. “[The trip to Israel] wasn’t in response to that at all,” Mr Musk said, adding: “I have no problem being hated.” Mr Musk later went further, addressing companies that had pulled marketing from X over concerns related to far-right content and accusing them of “blackmail”. “Don’t advertise,” he said at the New York Times’ Dealbook Summit. “If someone is going to try to blackmail me with advertising, blackmail me with money? The replies were full of cam girls sharing the weirdest requests they've got from clients, some seeming almost unbelievable, one woman simply commented "where to start..." However, the majority seemingly had that 'one' request that stuck with them, and they were kind enough to share them with the internet. She added that the request came when she first started out as a creator and is "honestly sad" that she didn't accept the request at the time. Many couldn't believe the request and asked if she had fulfilled it, but she explained that she hadn't because "he wanted me to do to for $35 so no. My base charge is 150." In the more shocking requests shared, one said that "a guy asked me to dissect a frog in my fanciest lingerie, did not do it lol." "My time has come," replied one cam girl to the question of what was her weirdest request. "I was asked to film myself pooping in a box, send him the poop, get in a call, and instruct him how to eat it. I said 'Sure! For $5,000.' 'I can only send $100, goddess." Another user replied asking her to clarify that if he had the money, would she have done it. "Yeah Probably!" She responded. Another creator shared that she had been asked for a video of her "driving in my car, seat close to the steering wheel, talking the whole time about how afraid of the airbag I am." This request went one step further, however, with the client asking for "a sequel 2 years later, where I am NOT afraid of the airbag anymore, and actually, I feel BETTER all scooted up!" Whilst many shared the strangest requests they had received, many said that they felt they couldn't even share the weirdest content they'd been asked to make, claiming it being too taboo for the mainstream internet. Tesla’s “Master of Coin” has stepped down after working at the Elon Musk-owned electric vehicle company for over 13 years. Zachary Kirkhorn became Tesla’s chief financial officer four and a half years ago in 2019, and was reportedly a potential successor to Mr Musk in running the EV company. The Tesla boss had dubbed him “Master of Coin” in 2021 – a reference to a title in hit TV series Game of Thrones. “During his tenure, Tesla has seen tremendous expansion and growth. Tesla thanks Mr Kirkhorn for his significant contributions,” Tesla noted in an SEC filing. Tesla’s current chief accounting officer, Vaibhav Taneja, will succeed Mr Kirkhorn, the electric automaker said on Monday. “This morning Tesla announced that I’ve stepped down from my role as Chief Financial Officer, succeeded by our Chief Accounting Officer, Vaibhav Taneja,” Mr Kirkhorn posted on his LinkedIn profile. “Being a part of this company is a special experience and I’m extremely proud of the work we’ve done together since I joined over 13 years ago,” he said. Mr Taneja previously worked as Tesla’s chief accounting officer up to March 2019, prior to which he worked as corporate controller from May 2018. It remains unclear what led to Mr Kirkhorn’s surprise decision to quit his role as Tesla’s CFO. Tesla recently announced its second quarter earnings, reporting a 20 per cent increase from the same quarter last year, better than what analysts estimated. Mr Kirkhorn’s departure also comes ahead of Tesla’s much-anticipated launch of its Cybertruck later this year. “As I shift my responsibilities to support this transition, I want to thank the talented, passionate, and hard-working employees at Tesla, who have accomplished things many thought not possible,” he said. Tesla shares dropped by about 3.5 per cent on Monday following the news, and continued to fall as the market opened.
