Facebook has stopped working, with users complaining they are unable to post. Many feared that they had been banned from using the site. But the problems appear to be related to technical issues. Other platforms owned by parent company Meta – such as WhatsApp and Instagram – appeared to be functioning as usual. Meta has recently been working to integrate the infrastructure of its different social networks, which seemingly means that they occasionally go offline at the same time. Some parts of Facebook also appeared to be working as normal, at least for some users. Facebook users complained particularly that posting appeared to be broken, even as other parts of the site worked. That led many to fear that they had been blocked from posting on the site because of some unknown infringement of the rules. On tracking website Down Detector, many said they were worried they had got in trouble until they saw details of the outage. The newly-released iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Max are suffering from overheating issues, according to owners. The flagship Apple phones are reportedly reaching temperatures as high as 47C, with some users claiming that the handsets become too hot to touch while not using a case. “My iPhone 15 Pro Max is almost too hot to touch while fast charging right now,” 9to5Mac reporter Ian Zelbo wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I thought people were overexaggerating but no this isn’t great. Interestingly, if I’m holding it, the left side rail and a little of the back on the left side is what is the hottest by far... lines up perfectly with the logic board.” Apple first introduced fast charging with the iPhone 8 in 2017, allowing users to gain up to 50 per cent battery in around 30 minutes. With the launch of the iPhone 15 range of phones this month, Apple switched from its proprietary charging cables to a standardised USB-C charger, in order to meet new European Union rules. Mr Zelbo noted that the issue was at its worst while his iPhone was fast charging from 25 per cent battery level to 60 per cent. “Past 70 per ent battery percentage it seems to have cooled down significantly (still hot but comfortable in the hand),” he noted. Other iPhone 15 users said they experienced overheating while playing games or scrolling through apps Tech publication Android Authority reported that the problem arose “during long use sessions” while switching between chat apps and social media videos. New guidance urging parents not to buy smartphones for their primary school age children has been introduced The Cabinet has approved a memo outlining the proposal which was brought by education minister Norma Foley. The new guidance is available online and will be sent to all primary schools in the country. The aim is to support parents of primary school children who wish to agree collectively on a voluntary agreement on the use of smartphones for their primary school age children. It is based on a project involving eight schools in Greystones in Co Wicklow that saw parents of primary school pupils collectively agree not to buy smartphones for them. Ms Foley’s plan was prompted by concerns around the potential exposure of younger children to cyber bullying, violent and sexual content and other harmful content on phones. The minister said that there were clear benefits to owning a smartphone but the risks they posed to children had to be managed. Ms Foley said: “Principals tell me that online bullying using smartphones happens outside school hours. “They can’t control it. It happens outside of school. “Children can be exposed to violence and sexual content that no parent would want them to see via their smartphone.” The minister’s party leader, Tanaiste Micheal Martin, used his speech at the Fianna Fail ard fheis on Saturday to flag the move.
