Fall is shaping up to be a fantastic month for gaming (and maybe not so much for our wallets) with hugely anticipated titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Lords of the Fallen, Call of Duty Modern Warfare III, Persona 5 Tactica, the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion, Ghostrunner II, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora to name a few.
I'm looking forward to the addictive “one more run” gameplay loop of Endless Dungeon and building and managing a thriving town in SteamWorld Build, but I digress: There’s no shortage of great games to play now and many of them are on sale:

For those who haven’t taken the plunge and upgraded to the PlayStation 5 console, it’s well worth the money. The console offers unparalleled graphical fidelity, much faster loading times over the PS4, and a huge library of next-gen games that are as fun to look at as they are to play.

Slip into the shoes of Basim, a thief turned assassin in the streets of ninth-century Baghdad. Mirage is a return to form for the Assassin’s Creed series, featuring the solid combat, stealthy hijinks, and visceral assassinations of the earlier titles. Ordering from Amazon nets you a set of three lithographs and a physical map of Baghdad. Pre-orders from Best Buy include a sweet 5-by-8-inch canvas art print depicting Basim in the city while supplies last. Whichever retailer you choose, your pre-order also grants you access to an additional in-game quest called The Forty Thieves. There’s also a deluxe edition for those who like digital collectibles; it includes a digital artbook and soundtrack as well as in-game skins inspired by the upcoming Prince of Persia game.
- Assassin's Creed Mirage Launch Edition (Amazon Pre-Order) for $49.99
- Assassin's Creed Mirage Launch Edition (Best Buy Pre-Order) for $49.99
Stray
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a cat? That’s a rhetorical question: Of course you have. Stray is a third-person adventure game that places you in the paws of a stray cat wandering through the derelict streets of a cyberpunk city. You’ll have to be stealthy to avoid dangers and acrobatic to access high places, as well as do silly cat things such as meow a million times and knock things off ledges. What more could you ask for from a game starring a cat? With the announcement of an animated series based on the game, it's a great time to get into Stray.
- Stray for $29.01 (List Price $39.99)
Sonic Frontiers
Sonic Frontiers was somewhat of a departure from the usual Sonic format, featuring a large overworld with its own hidden secrets to explore while still delivering the high-speed gameplay we’ve come to expect from our favorite blue blur. The battle system adds RPG elements like skill tree upgrades and when you’re not tearing across five different locales, you’ll be taking on side quests, solving puzzles, and engaging with familiar faces. The third and final free update comes out at the end of September, adding even more content for the price.
- Sonic Frontiers for $34.87 (List Price $59.99)
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
While it won’t win any awards for innovation, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a blast to play—especially if you’re like me and wished the wickedly funny explosives expert had more of a presence in Borderlands 2 (and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and Borderlands 3). If you’ve played any of 2K’s popular franchise, you know exactly what to expect: a looter shooter with a heavy dose of both looting and shooting. Add to that narrative by the titular Tina and a wacky adventure that could have only come from her twisted mind. It’s even better in co-op with up to three friends either online or locally.
- Tiny Tina's Wonderlands Next Level Edition for $19.99 (List Price $39.99)
Ghost of Tsushima - Director's Cut
Ghost of Tsushima was released in 2020, and it received high marks from our reviewer for its fast-paced action combat and immersive storytelling. You play as Jin Sakai, an honorable samurai determined to protect Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. You'll witness his fall from grace before building him up to be the hero Tsushima Island needs. The Director’s Cut gives you some in-game cosmetics; an expansion for Iki Island, an area available to you once you progress through the story; and access to the Legends Mode, which pads out your game time with online co-op.
- Ghost of Tsushima - Director's Cut (PS5) for $39.99 (List Price $69.99)
