Best Buy just revealed plans for an Oct. savings event to rival Prime Day — here's what you need to know

As you probably already know, a second Prime Day is upon us. But what you might not have known is that this year, Amazon is going to have some pretty stiff competition in the lead-up to Black Friday 2023, thanks to a few other key big-box retailers.

Not the least of which is Best Buy, which just announced a massive plan for a month-long Oct. savings event. Here's everything you need to know about the Prime Big Deal Days competitor.

What is the event and when does it start?

Best Buy's savings event will kick off on Oct. 1 and last throughout the entire month. According to a press release from Best Buy, the retailer will be offering new perks every single day in Oct., including but not limited to "purchase rewards, exclusive sale events with top brands like Samsung and Microsoft, access to deeper discounts for Plus and Total members, and more."

What kind of deals will we see?

In addition to fresh daily deals, Best Buy's Oct. savings event will be split up into multiple, smaller events throughout the month that will serve as a primer for this year's Black Friday sale. Here's a breakdown:

  • Member exclusives: Every single day in Oct., Best Buy Total and Plus members will get access to exclusive deals and discounts across the Best Buy catalog. As an added bonus, Total and Plus members who spend at least $500 in Oct. will receive a $50 certificate to use on December purchases. Members will also get early access to select Black Friday deals from Oct. 27-29.

  • Exclusive Samsung and Microsoft sales: Being a non-Apple-user pays off sometimes, huh? During Oct., Best Buy will be partnering with tech giants Samsung and Microsoft for two special sale events, with the former taking place from Oct. 6-8, and the latter taking place from Oct. 13-15. For the Samsung event, shoppers who spend at least $1,000 on Samsung products will get a $100 voucher to use on other Samsung products between Oct. 24 and Nov. 16. For the Microsoft event, shoppers will have access to exclusive offers on Xbox and Windows products, including savings of up to $500 on Windows laptops.

  • 48-Hour Flash Sale: As if things couldn't get any better, Best But will also be hosting a 48-Hour Flash sale from Oct. 10-11, featuring hundreds of deals from across the retailer's tech offerings that you won't want to miss.

  • Weekend gaming event: Finally, Best Buy will also be holding a weekend gaming event from Oct. 20-22 with sweet deals on hardware, games, and accessories.

Will we see any new product offerings?

Yes, we will. Best Buy announced that this year, they'll be expanding their catalog of products to include a variety of new e-transportation, health and wellness, outdoor living, and LEGO offerings for shoppers to dig into. In total, Best Buy will see over 7,000 new additions to these product categories throughout the holiday shopping season.

What shopping options will we have?

If regular online shopping hasn't been cutting it for you, Best Buy is doubling down on offering other ways to finalize your holiday purchases:

  • Experience stores: This holiday season, Best Buy will be opening up over 50 "Experience stores," which are said to "bring shoppers the ultimate shopping experience with immersive demo areas, new product categories, luxury appliances, and more."

  • Outlet stores: Best Buy has more than 20 outlet stores across the U.S. that offer open-box and clearance items for even more savings. Some outlet products can be ordered online at BestBuy.com/Outlet.

  • Traditional and virtual stores: And if you want to go the IRL route, you can visit your local Best Buy store or the online storefront to shop those Oct. savings drops.

What will holiday shipping be like?

Luckily, Best Buy will be offering big savings on shipping fees throughout the holiday season, in addition to same-day shipping for $9.99 ($4.99 for Best Buy Plus and Total members), and free next-day delivery on a wide variety of products. (My Best Buy members can get free standard shipping on all purchases, and Best Buy Plus and Total members get free two-day shipping.) Best Buy also offers convenient curbside and in-store pickup options for those who prefer it.

That's all we know about the Best Buy Oct. savings event for now, but be sure to check back often, as we'll be updating this page with new info as it comes in.
